F IS FOR FACEPALMS

Guys.  I hate to break this to you, but you did not invent the facepalm.

Not by a long shot.

Dismay, regret, anguish - they've been with the human race for a long, long time.  It's instinctive in those situations to cover your eyes so you can't see, to cover your face so you can hide in shame.  When Adam and Eve got exiled from the Garden of Eden, don't you think there was some serious facepalming going on?

And the moral of the story is:

And there you have it.

  3. I feel so sorry for those sad statues. Mind you, it must be a boring life.

    1. Keith: I never thought to feel sorry for statues, even the saddest ones. But I do feel empathy for the human emotions they represent.

  4. LOL Facepalming has probably been around since caveman times. I wonder if there's a cave drawing of a dude faceplaming. XD

    1. Doubtful, Patricia. From what I've seen, cave paintings didn't really focus on facial features. But you would think that the guy who stepped on a dry twig and scared away the prey would have had a whole lot of explaining to do!

  5. I never noticed so much facepalming before! So this has been ingrained in our genes for a long time..does that mean we aren't getting any smarter?

  6. Too funny! On a serious note, I now want to know about academic studies of "Face Palming" in classical texts. I'm going to research it. Glenda from

  10. Very original post, even though, as you demonstrate through the great art photos, Face-palms have quite a lengthy history.
